How have you found trying to get a placement?
I am on the sandwich course and looking at completing my 3rd year in the industry.
Managed to get some work experience at a company in London for a couple of weeks before the end of Summer but that is about it at the moment.
Are you looking at specialising in anything in particular, such as the programming or cryptography?
Cheers
James
Hi James,
I have applied for several placements and have had a few interviews. I have been unsuccessful in getting a placement but I have been placed on the reserve list several times. I always seem to get second place, so I have since decided to return to uni for the 3rd year and to complete the inter grated masters in Computer Security. Mainly because it widens my employment prospects. Also the Msc in Computer Forensics is not designed for those whom have completed the Bsc (Hons). A few of my friends have had better luck and are undertaking a placement.
In the 3rd year you can choose two modules, I have gone for Computer Security & Administration and Networks as I believe they are the most relevant. Sadly Programming and Crypto are not an option for 3rd year forensics students. Which is a shame really because I've taken to programming like a duck to water. Even writing a program to convert P-list (MAC) seconds into an accurate date in my spare time.
For my third year project I am doing triage tools for embedded systems.
What about yourself? What do you make of the course so far and how are you finding it? What part of Forensics interests you? and what is your career goal?
Cheers Matt
