The California Department of Justice (DOJ) announces an exceptional career opportunity to work in an exciting program committed to providing best-in-class digital forensic assistance to California law enforcement. The mission of the Division of Law Enforcement (DLE), Bureau of Digital Forensics (BDF) is to assist law enforcement agencies throughout the State of California in digital forensics by locating, preserving, acquiring, and forensically analyzing digital evidence that is obtained through civil and criminal investigations. The DLE, BDF is seeking highly motivated and analytical individuals to serve as Staff Information Systems Analysts (SISA), Specialist (Digital Forensics Examiner). As journey level analysts, under general supervision, independently performs a variety of tasks in connection with the analysis of electronic information processing systems in support of the Computer Forensics Lab. The primary responsibility of these positions is to conduct the most complex forensic examinations of digital and electronic media devices to identify, document, collect, process, present and preserve evidence in law enforcement investigations. Examples of digital evidence and electronic media include, but not limited to: computer hard drives, external drives, cellular phones, network devices, information systems, and any other devices that store and process digital media. Additionally, this position will be required to provide peer review and quality control for forensics analyst teams and will provide technical expertise in project management on a wide variety of complex information technology solutions. Other duties include but are not limited to preparing standard reports and maintaining files. The incumbents must exercise a high degree of initiative, discretion/confidentiality, independence, reliability, dependability, good judgment and flexibility in performing a wide variety of duties. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; good research skills; strong organizational skills; possess good work habits; work effectively with all levels of staff and other state and local agencies; adjust to changing priorities and work well under pressure. Our ideal candidates will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Education or certifications in Computer Science, Criminal Justice and or Computer and Digital Forensics programs. • Ability to properly assemble and disassemble computer and server hardware. (CompTIA A+ Certification or training preferred) • Standard computer software including databases, spreadsheets, word documents, and operating systems. • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Lotus, Novell GroupWise, POP3 and other common email and messaging systems. • Mobile and Cellular Computing Solutions (Smartphones and Tablets) • LANs, WANs, and computer systems to include computer systems security and computer systems networks. • The internet, browsers and search engines. • Social Media • Forensic software • Legal terminology and court processes. • Research methods related to forensic analysis. • ANSI ASCII character sets as well as binary, decimal and hexadecimal. • Possess the ability to present data in a clear and understandable manner. • Exercise sound judgment in safeguarding/ disseminating confidential or sensitive information. • Communicate orally and in writing to all levels. • Read, comprehend and interpret complex information including directions/instructions. • Plan, organize, coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects. • Ability to travel and work after hours FILING REQUIREMENT: Failure to submit the following with your application package may result in elimination from the hiring process: - State Application (STD. 678) - Clearly indicate the basis of your eligibility in the Explanation section located at the bottom of page one. - If you are using education to meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must submit a copy of your transcript or diploma.
